What our clients have to say

“This has been an invaluable resource for me. It helps to make the most of my lessons with my trainer at home, and it provides focus to improve my riding generally. It’s especially helpful to be able to go abck and revisit topics. Members get a huge amount of content and instruction, especially for the price.
I can’t recommend it enough.”

– Jeff Rose

“This online community is an excellent addition to our lesson program as it helps convey in-depth information like enhanced theory sessions that we can directly apply in our lessons. G,udmar not only provides detailed information on how to address certain topics, but by narrating his intents, cues, and progress, as well as the horse’s response, Gudmar also provides a good learning opportunity to train the eye and get immediate feedback. This allows students of all riding levels to benefit from theses videos.“

I attended a clinic of Guðmar’s in Trout Lake Washington several years ago. Just that short time learning directly from him, and access to instructional videos through Ask Guðmar have revolutionized my riding ability. My tool belt for training my own horses has grown and diversified. I look forward to visiting Hestaland one day!

– Monica Urrutia-Sheehan

“It takes a lot to make an online horse community work well: 1. A super skilled, experienced and specialized horse trainer who 2. Is also a brilliant teacher and who 3. Manages to make the most of the members questions. Gudmar is that kind of person, and Ask Gudmar is that kind of community. (Well, it takes good members as well, and luckily the group members are passionate, supportive and humorous!)”

– Pernille Huus Bojsen-Møller

“I have attended several of Gudmar’s clinics in Ontario Canada. Being a beginner Icelandic rider...he gave me the best introduction and helped me develop into a somewhat competent rider! His "Ask Gudmar" videos and online question time has been a wonderful reinforcement!“

– Joanne Chalmers

Gudmar is a superb riding instructor, perceptive, patient, encouraging, and able to communicate what the rider can do to get the most out of a particular horse and have an enjoyable experience. I've taken lessons from him in the U.S. and Iceland, and I always come away inspired and with a greater understanding of horses and how to be a better rider. I recommend him highly.

At 70 years of age, I have had several trainers, attended numerous clinics, and read countless books and articles about riding. But Gudmar and his online training Ask Gudmar truly provide the clearest path to learning. The program, which started at the beginning of the COVID lockdowns offered riders, and Iceland lovers, a chance to feel like they were still able to learn and “get out of the house.”  It was a sanity saver for many of us.

Now, after many months, I am an addict.  Gudmar has vast wisdom regarding the Icelandic horse and riding.  He is willing to be fully transparent and shows humility, humor, and genuine kindness. He invites questions and actually even states when he is in steps of his own discovery with a horse.  His knowledge and his openness make it easy for participants to ask really basic questions without fear of looking like a bad rider.  This is something I have not discovered with other trainers. With Ask Gudmar, one feels he is encouraging the partnership for the trainer/student journey.  The experience is precious and unique.  I am grateful it was started and continues.

I joined Ask Gudmar when it was launched in the Spring of 2020 as a Facebook Live event. I have learned so much from the experience. Not only is Gudmar able to demonstrate effective training methods, but he takes the time to examine the horse’s behavior and capabilities and explains his reasoning for his training technique with each horse. The online platform allows for repeated review of the topics, many chosen by the attendees. The weekly discussions offer a chance for attendees to question approaches or challenges they may be experiencing and give Gudmar as well as other attendees a chance to offer helpful suggestions. Gudmar knows and respects his horses and it is apparent during every video presentation and discussion group. I find that going back and reviewing the videos and discussions has been a critical part of my awareness in starting a path towards understanding my horse’s abilities and gaining mutual respect and trust. If you are a longtime horse owner and rider, or someone like me, who is just starting a journey with a new horse, I highly recommend you join Ask Gudmar.

Having gone from high level dressage horses and competing all over Canada and the USA very successfully to a total life changing decision in horses, I bought my Icelandic Horse from a very reputable and knowledgeable breeder in Vernon, British Columbia Canada, Arnold Faber and have truly enjoyed the transition. I have taken clinics with Gudmar in Vernon as well as spending time at Hestaland on riding treks and am part of the Ask Gudmar team and find his knowledge and experience in training Icelandic Horses extremely valuable and so rewarding. Thanks Gudmar!
